Do you think it's better for the latest The Sims series to have religions?

Asked by Unofficial_Member (5107points) April 28th, 2016

So far, religions only exist exclusively in Medieval Sims series. In that series you’re the God acknowledged and worshipped by Sims. A couple of cults are formed to worship you.

For a video game that attempt to emulate real life situation excluding religions from main branch of Sims would seem unfair. Making religion as an option would be a much better choice.

Would like the ability to form a religion in The Sims? Would it affect your gameplay if they add that feature?

Anything is fine. It’s just a game after all.

I guess if they are replicating real life, then they need something to make you start a war.

@Mimishu1995 I think so too but I’ve fallen under the assumption that the reason they excude religion in main branch of The Sims is because people are offended by it since they only add feature that the majority of people enjoy.

@zenvelo Fair point. But considering The Sims is only limited to a neighborhood it’s impossible to start a national-scale war (except Medieval Sims but it may only appear as text-based). You can still do protest and arrange ‘war’ between groups of sims, though.

@Unofficial_Member I think so too. Some people can’t stand religion presented in any form. I’m fine with anything anyway. It’s just a game, why bother?

I think religion is not included in The Sims because it’s really not that serious in tone. Adding religion adds a seriousness to it that is, I think, beyond the intent of the games’ designers.

Considering the gods worshipped by the Sims would be powerless to stop you from burning down a house full of children, I could see the real-life religious people being quite perturbed.

I’ve never played the game, believe it or not, but I remember reading a post by someone years ago where they described having fun with creating a bunch of priests and nuns running around.

It just caught my eye as being a bit odd and that’s probably why I remember it. So, is it possible that this was in one of the very early versions of the game (this was about 6–8 years ago that I read this post ) and this option was discontinued for some reason?

@Darth_Algar They have done it in Medieval Sims. I thought they’ll carry forward this feature in The Sims 4 but they don’t.

@Seek We are the Gods in Sims universe (at least in Sims Medieval). Religions are created to for sims to worship you, as the creator. Sims will have natural longing to adopt religion, and you can deliver reward for dilligent worshippers and punishments for disbelievers (that need to be converted!), which make all your contribution in Sims universe more rewarding than ever. There are also discrimination between people from different cults (which I think funny in video game but should exist just to be fair).

@Buttonstc those were appearance-wise only (you can still do it in Create-a-sim if you know how to design, mix and match clothes). The idea of religion and God didn’t exist until Sims Medieval but sadly they didn’t add this feature in the latest installments of Sims.

Yes, I’m aware of that.
