Can a man be presidential, yet have no class?

Asked by stanleybmanly (24153points) December 15th, 2016 from iPhone

Somewhere in my past I remember hearing (or reading?) a story about Kennedy while watching Nixon speak on television, turned and announced bewildered to the room “this guy has no class”. The question is, should it matter?

Class and effectiveness of leadership don’t necessarily overlap.

President Johnson was classless. I’m not sure how he is looked upon as an effective president though.

A president should at least be capable of faking class. For diplomatic reasons. And would be wise not to be classless when they are on social media, or any place they could be judged by their words or actions.

The president is effectively an employee of the country. Much like certain behavior is expected when representing a company, a president should be expected to behave a certain way.

There are some minimum standards I expect to be followed. I expect the president to not be petty or engage in name calling. Although the president, like all politicians, will sometimes tell lies, I expect to have a basic level of trust in what the president says. Trump fails to meet these minimum standards.
