Is anyone surprised that Trump decided to skip the annual Correspondents' dinner?

Asked by stanleybmanly (24153points) February 25th, 2017 from iPhone

It’s surprising evidence that someone in his entourage can see ahead. Though in this case, the upcoming wreck was blindingly obvious.

No. He was totally in his element when he was at that CPAC meeting but the Correspondents dinner would be totally OUT of that realm.

This way he preempts his guests by staying home ahead of them. A little foresight was required to avoid the embarrassing spectacle of a party with Trump & Fox in an otherwise empty room.

I am surprised.

Trump was ridiculed at the 2011 dinner by Obama. Trump stewed in anger.

If Obama was wrong, Trump can do better with The Truth!!

Right?

No. I was actually hoping everyone would skip this affair and cancel it altogether until trump is impeached or is gone from taking a dump on the county.

He was probably upset the adult sized silverware would expose hi little hands.

No. Trump doesn’t like to stray far from his comfort zone. He was afraid someone might make a joke about him.

No surprise here. Why would he want to attend the “Nerd Prom” when 100% of the media did all they could to derail the media during his campaign?

Am I surprised that he only wants to be surrounded by arse licking toadies?
No, I am not.

No. Poor special snowflake can dish it but he can’t take it.

True, he’s still roiling over what Obama said about him in 2011.

Trump wants to control media content and who is in attendance; neither would happen.

Maybe if he is still President next ear he will control media, he and the GOP are hoping.

@Cruiser “No surprise here. Why would he want to attend the “Nerd Prom” when 100% of the media did all they could to derail the media during his campaign?”

Because it would demonstrate that he’s not a petty, vindictive, thin-skinned overgrown child.

@Darth_Algar How would then characterize the media’s, Republican party and the DNC’s behavior and reception of his participation in the Primaries and General election??? They did everything they could to demonstrate they are every bit the petty, vindictive, thin-skinned overgrown children.

Goddamn, this constant “but…but…but…they did…” whining from the right is tiresome. That shit didn’t fly in kindergarten, it sure as shit doesn’t fly in the grown up adult world.

Even assuming that to be true, he’s the fucking President of the United States. Holder of the highest office in the nation and perhaps the most powerful seat on the planet. Such pettiness is beneath the office he holds.

Cruiser's avatar

@Darth_Algar Gee where were you with your high bar the last 8 years?? It would have been so refreshing to see a Liberal hold Obama and the media to such high stoic standards. O_o

The only thing that would surprise me,is if Trump would just shut his stupid mouth. Otherwise, he’s a total wildcard.

Those that would argue that Trump is afraid of answering questions should refer to the conference where Trump announced the new labor secretary that turned into a Q and A that ended up going on for nearly and hour and a half.

Call_Me_Jay's avatar

What questions did he answer in an hour and a half?

MrGrimm888's avatar

Trump isn’t afraid of answering questions. But his insecurities seem to have worsened when he took office. I think he’d rather nuke the planet than appear sub par (which he certainly is.)

@Cruiser

I found plenty to criticise Obama over during his term. That those criticisms may not have been on this forum, or that they may have been overlooked or ignored by you, is not my problem.

Nor does it have much to do with my point above, which was that pointing to the poor behavior of others does not justify or excuse one’s own poor behavior. Seriously, most children learn this by the time they reach 1st grade.
