Does anyone know any thing about these canisters?

Asked by Dutchess_III (46828points) May 25th, 2017

These. I’m interested but only if they’re worth something. I’m not too sure about the decoration. It kind of looks like it was just glued on plastic.

They’re tobacco jars with delft paintings. It might be worth your while to determine whether or not the “pictures” are indeed glued on plastic.

Hey…you’ve got cremation urns for the entire family! LOL
Have you researched them online anywhere or…take them to a local antiques/collectables dealer and see what their appraisal of them is. Maybe antiques road show will swing into town soon. :-p

@Coloma must be munching on “Brownies” again!

They look like kitchen canisters for Sugar, Flour, Sugar, and Tea bags.

@Tropical_Willie Haha, no brownies just my offbeat humor. :-p

I wouldn’t say they were worth anything. They are 10 a penny kilner/ikea mason jars with a transfer on them. I googled and there are loads of much prettier painted jars on Etsy etc. Avoid them unless you like them for themselves. They won’t make you rich! I quite like them though – I have bit of a thing for blue and white china so these would match.

Well, I’m Dutch. I have one portion of my kitchen dedicated to Dutch stuff. My whole family, on Mom’s side are into Dutch stuff, so it’s perfect. BUT I also don’t like cheap shit. I guess I just need to take a look. I texted the seller’s wife yesterday evening. She said she didn’t think they were glued on. We’ll find out today.

Not looking to get rich, but I appreciate a bargain. Over the course of 10 years I picked up two of these vintage McCoy Dutch cookie jars for cheap, like $5.00. One was at a garage sale, the other at a thrift store. One is in so so condition, kind of like the one in my link. The second is perfect.

The cookie jar? IDK. 40’s I’m guessing. I saw one sell for, like, $150 on ebay once, but I think that buyer was nuts!

OK, yes, the pictures are stick on decals, however, they are not, as I had feared, one long strip of clear plastic with the pictures stamped on it. They’re cut to shape. They feel rough and seem sturdy enough to stand up under gentle washings, unlike my McCoy cookie jars.

They are not old.

They are perfect for my Dutch corner. Worth $5 each to me.
I’ll take a pic as soon as I get them cleaned and put up.

I’ll be keeping coffee in one, and sugar in another. Don’t know about the other two.

Ok. Here is my whole counter-with-Dutch stuff. On the back wall there is a picture of a Holland street with a brief description in Dutch . Something about “d’Hagen” so maybe it’s The Hague.
Next to it is a Dutch cookie mold. I have 4 of them. That one is new, the other 3 still have flour in them. I have looked up how to make cookies in them, so I’ll try that one of these days.
I picked up a little planter in the shape of a Dutch shoe painted in delft blue. Need to put something in it. Next to it is a delft blue canister that my Mom gave me. Ooops. The broken side is showing! It’s not good for much now! And behind my casserole dish that has Dutch kids on it, which my Mom also gave me, are my new canisters. The look much better with something in them. Coffee is in one, sugar in one. Don’t know what to put in the other two. Suggestions?

I also have random tiles with Dutch stuff on them. I’m thinking of putting them on the wall, maybe replace some of the tile running around the bottom.

My McCoy cookie jars are in a barristers bookself to the left, that you can’t see, behind glass, so they don’t get so dusty. It’s tricky cleaning them because they’re hand painted.
