Has anyone here used silk pillows or silk sheets to sleep on?

Asked by AloraCrimson (503points) July 4th, 2017

Has anyone here used silk pillows or silk sheets to sleep on? How did it feel? I’m thinking of switching out my cotton pillows and blankets for silk.

They say silk is much better for the skin, is anti-aging and less damaging than using cotton since cotton can be drying…

Do you guys agree with this?

Does silk really feel much better?

Thank you

Yes and I slid off the bed without realizing! I’ll stick to regular cotton bedclothes.

^^ Same experience. Not a fan.

Yep as others have mentioned, they are a PITA. haha
They look beautiful but are slippery, your pillows shoot out from under your head, slide off the bed. They don’t breathe like cotton so are extra hot and in general not a god sleeping experience. If you want the look of silk or satin buy a comforter or throw pillows for the effect.

Yes. Don’t like them. Not very comfortable at all.

Go with Bamboo sheets, we love ours.

Smooth without being slippery; cool in summer and warm in winter.

I had a girlfriend who had silk sheets. It was a problem.

One or the other of us would go sliding across the sheets when we were supposed to be pushing against each other for friction and enjoyment.

Maybe silk sheets are desirable if you’re celibate?

@Tropical_Willie Yes! I love the bamboo sheets and bamboo in general. I used to grow several varieties, I’d love to have a bamboo plantation. haha

Note to self : Everyone hates silk sheets, so use bamboo sheets instead.

Thanks everyone for the input, I’ve never tried them before so don’t know how they feel. But everyone here says they dislike silk, so I’ll try the next best thing, the bamboo sheets, @Tropical_Willie Thank you for the suggestion :)

@Coloma

Silk sheets are extra hot ?? Ahhh I didn’t know that….. online they said silk sheets are cooling

@elbanditoroso

I’m way too pretty to be celibate, so that isn’t the issue.

I just heard silk is anti-aging and less drying for hair than using cotton pillows.

I like the way silk looks, it looks really sexy, but everyone here is saying silk sucks, so I’m gonna look for bamboo sheets instead (which sounds sexy to me too)

Welp, okay, despite everyone’s opinion I’m still gonna try out silk sheets, I found this absolutely beautiful and sexy set on Amazon, it’s so pretty.

Call me crazy

@AloraCrimson They are beautiful, try them and form your own opinion. The set I bought was a royal purple. Stunning to look at but too slippery to sleep well on. haha

@Coloma

You’re right they are beautiful to look at :)

Royal Purple must of been GORGEOUS….......

Maybe I’ll just use them as a display or when I have company over…... lol

I’m wondering how the silk would be to wash. Would it launder well? Normally, with clothing, silk gets dry cleaned.

Silk is very washable. I’ve washed my silk by hand.

But the Japanese don’t wash silk kimonos. Instead they wear a cotton undergarment that catches the sweat, and air the kimono out before packing them away with herbs that deter bugs and mildew.

@snowberry: Yes, but sheets aren’t something I’d want to wash by hand. Would silk sheets do well in a washing machine?

Well, they disintegrate much faster, over time, in the wash than cotton. Another reason I don’t use silk.
