As we plod onward toward yet another armed conflict, have you seen or heard a single anti-war activist as a counterpoint on a news channel, whether liberal or conservative?

Asked by rojo (24179points) August 10th, 2017

Just as in the run up to the Iraq wars and Afghanistan the only people we hear from are either pro-war or supposed middle-of-the-roaders; those who say we should go all out and those who say it should be a more limited conflict; those pushing for the war and those in whose view it is inevitable anyway.

Occasionally they will have someone who is attending an anti-war rally and is all fired up excited and they will be displayed as comic relief but rarely, if ever, will you see a principled anti-war intellectual pitted against those who are pushing for the war in a one on one setting.

Why is that?
Have you observed any rational anti-war guests on news shows?
On the intellectual front, who now carries the banner against war?

I am as anti war as it gets.

War is sad, terrifying, unimaginably gruesome, and expensive.

The problem is that making war is apparently a human trait, and there hasn’t been, and maybe will not be, a moment where everybody drops their guns simultaneously.

So until then, it is probably going to happen. And when it does, it finally gets down to you killing them before they kill you, anti war or not.

All the media or read I listen to are against it.

Most intelligent people are quietly trying to gauge whether this whole thing is seriously necessary, or just another phony, frivolous distraction before voicing an opinion.

When Bush shamefully convinced a lot of the country that an invasion of Iraq was crucial toward…..nobody-still-knows-what….many of our easily-led citizens bought the lemon.

Today, many people have wised-up, and are at this point just trying to determine who the biggest liar and lunatic is in this latest military saber-rattling….

My god Obama spends a dime on anything and the rep/cons cry it’s the end of the world, but another conflict that they seem to be for and it’s hell yeah, we got to show that little fart ole kim what’s his name who’s boss type thing.

We need to be rid of both of these ego filled mega maniacs and maybe things will settle down just a bit.

When the neighbor kid is shooting off bottle rockets and lighting fire crackers it’s just annoying. When he starts making pipe bombs and blowing up brick mailboxes it’s time to do something.

@ARE_you_kidding_me “It’s time to do something” is not the best reason to threaten nuclear war.

You don’t stop the neighbor kid by throwing your own pipebomb through his window. You round up the brat and send him to reform school.

Ideally, with a group of other neighbors like NATO or the UN Security Council.

I have no idea who these pro-war people are. I have not heard anyone advocating a war, including Trump. If N.Korea sends a nuke toward us or our allies, it would require a response. Simply saying ‘Please stop’ won’t do it. Barring that, we continue to pursue diplomatic channels and pressure on China in hopes of a resolution. N.Korea has the ball in their court.

Jaxk’s med’s must have kicked in.

You know some people (not me of course) could consider that criticism. I took a double dose BTW.

I’m glad you are Happy @Jaxk.
