How can I make bread this way?

Asked by Dutchess_III (46814points) December 24th, 2017

I want to make the dough tonight, and take it to Rick’s family Christmas gathering tomorrow, and bake the actual bread there. But what is the best way to do this? It’s about a 2.5 hour drive.

If that is true, I would get up early and make the dough, then let it rise while you are travelling (pausing once to punch it down), and then bake on arrival.

I made home made rolls last weekend and even baked them. I then froze them and thawed them out Friday night. I took them to my brother’s house and warmed them up. They were just as good as when I made them.
But @Marinelife has a great answer.

Can I make it tonight and freeze the dough? Or even refrigerate?

How did you warm the rolls up, @chyna?

One problem with assuming the dough will rise in the car is that it needs to be warm. If you make the bread tonight, it should be fine tomorrow unless it’s a baguette. You can wrap it in foil or saran wrap after it cools to keep it fresh.

If you want to warm it before serving it, put it in a 250 degree oven for 15 or so minutes.

I think I’ll do that @janbb. I was kind of dreaming of the smell of bread baking on Christmas day filling his Dad’s house, but if it’s going to stress me it’s not worth it.

I’ll just get sensy wax that smells like bread!

@janbb We have heated seats, but not in the back. That warmth would be perfect though to raise the bread!

I warmed them at 325 for 10 minutes.
