Do you cry easily during movies?

Asked by rockfan (14627points) December 27th, 2017 from iPhone

I saw Coco last night, and by the end of the film I probably cried 3 times.

I tend to get invested in movies and movie characters very easily, but unlike most people, the dramatic movie scenes that make me cry are the ones that are under stated and not particularly sappy. For example, the scene in LOTR when Aragorn says to the hobbits “You bow down to no one.” makes me tear me up every time, but the endings of The Notebook and Titanic doesn’t make me shed a tear. What about you?

Coco was good, but it wasn’t cry-worthy, in my opinion. What was so impressive about Coco was the special effects and art – Pixar did a masterful job at that.

But tear-jerker movies are so situational, at least for me. If I’m in a melancholy mood, I may tear up. The same movie with a different mood or degree of relaxation, not so much.

I come from a Mexican background (and my grandfather was a guitar player) and have also dealt with family members having Alzheimer’s, so I think that was definitely a contributing factor for me

I tear up at movies that strike certain emotional chords. Anything about a reconciliation or connection between a son and a father will force a couple of sobs out of me. Some, but not all, spiritual awakenings can do the same thing.

I am hoping to see Coco this weekend.

I saw Coco and got a little teary eyed. It depends on my mood though. I can get teary eyed at the Folgers coffee commercial where the kid comes home from college.

I do cry ever since Rose didn’t scooch to save Jack… THERE WAS ENOUGH SPACE FOR BOTH OF THEM!!!

elbanditoroso's avatar

@flameboi – I didn’t think space was the issue; I thought it was that their combined weight would have been the problem. Both of them would have sunk.

Yes, if the film gets me invested in it enough, though I’m a fairly critical customer. I need to be able to relate to the characters as sympathetic people, which some films don’t get me to do because they seem too fake, unbelievable, or annoying to me.

Yes. I cry easily when it is something that I can relate to.

As I get older, the easier it is to draw me to tears. Some commercials can, these days.

I loved coco! My brother and I both cried in that movie. Especially when hector was singing to coco.

I do cry easily in movies though… I get super invested in movies as well

@elbanditoroso I think mythbusters did something about it, both were skinny so I think the door could have handled them…
