You'd keep a yard man even if he has arrests for DUI, right?

Asked by Aster (20023points) May 5th, 2018

For the sick fun of it I looked him up on google and he has had three arrests: one for public intoxication and two for DUI. The only thing he has done that really annoyed me was , when I was sitting at my computer, he looked through the window and knocked on the glass. Scared me to death! Luckily, I was dressed. He apologized.

1. Were the offenses recent or in the past?

2. Do you know if he is still drinking?

3. Have you ever suspected him drinking while working at your house?

Firing him because he has a record is arbitrary and unfair, but telling him you know of his record and will not accept being drunk or drinking on the job is okay. And say if you find him under the influence and he attempts to drive away you willl call the police.

The most important question in my mind at this point is whether he ever runs errands on your behalf. If he drinks and drives while in your employ, and has an accident that causes death, severe injury or major property damage, then you could be part of a suit for damages.

For that matter, if he has an accident on your property while drunk, even if no one gets hurt except him, then you could face potential liability there, too.

I have not seen him intoxicated and the offenses were in ‘05 and ‘11.

In that case, no, it wouldn’t bother me, but I might tend to look at him each time he showed up with the question in mind whether he was tipsy or not.

Offer him a cold beer on hot days, instead.

It wouldn’t bother me. I do boycott businesses for ethical reasons. If this is a big deal, get someone else. But. Are you going to start looking up everyone’s history, and judge them? Or is this guy deserving of special criticism?

Perhaps you have too much time on your hands. Have you considered gardening?

Is he a good grounds keeper? If yes then…yes.

If he is doing a good job, I’d keep him.

The only thing that matters to me with my yard man is what he does in my yard. Once he crosses over that sidewalk whatever he does is of no concern of mine.

I hate a lot of things and it is pretty much #1 Comcast and #2 Drunk Drivers.. And even I would not fire a person for driving drunk 7 years ago as long as they showed up to and left work sober.

Is he hot? If he is then I wouldn’t mind at all lol. Realistically speaking, I hire the man to get the job done, but if he can work the yard with sweat glistening his shirtess body… then that would be a bonus haha.

I’d keep him if he wasn’t drunk on the job. And, you know, I have very little tolerance for people who drink daily, or who drink and drive even worse.

Is he driving?

I fired my yard worker after he showed up at my door high on drugs and asked to be paid for the month even though he hadn’t done any work for the passed three weeks.

ARE_you_kidding_me's avatar

I think I would have done the same.

@Pinguidchance you could ask that question of dozens if not more posters on here but you decided to ask me. I do not understand that.
Someone once asked, ” do you put the glasses from the dishwasher upright or upside down in the cabinet? ” and he got away with it. Not only that he also received a lot of points for the question.
