Have you ever known a kid who is crazy about vegetables (or not,) and do you have any funny stories to tell about them?

I’ve had quite a few in my life who loved veggies, and I don’t even know why. But I’ve also had kids in my life who detested veggies. I wonder what makes some kids love some things and not others?

My oldest could sit down and consume an entire small veggie try by herself from about the age of 5 on.

My middle child, on the other hand, was insanely picky. One time I tried to feed her a spoon full of homemade chicken pot pie. She was still in a high chair. She allowed the spoon to go in her mouth, but there was resistance when I tried to pull it back out. After a few seconds I was allowed to pull the spoon out….she ate all the chicken and the potatoes, but sucked all the gravy off of the peas and carrots so they were nice and shiny in the perfectly clean spoon when I pulled it out of her mouth. I was amazed. How did she even DO that?!

That same kid now has a 6 year old who is crazy about cherry tomatoes and sweet peppers, of all kinds.

My youngest could care less what he ate. One time, when he was 2, I told him to quit eating bugs because it was going to ruin his appetite for dinner.
He said, “Thas not bugs, thas jus a mosquito.”

Do you have any funny food stories about your kids?

I was always amused by my step children. My wife would make a big pot of soup. One of the kids would eat the soup as it was, one would eat only the broth and noodles, and the other would strain out all the veggies. It equaled out in the long run, I guess.

My daughter did not like spaghetti sauce so when I made spaghetti I had to set a portion of the hamburger aside for her to eat plain, along with plain noodles.
