When was the last time you had a cold?

Asked by Dutchess_III (46828points) March 17th, 2019

I haven’t had a cold in 25 years! I’m immune to all the common versions of the rhinovirus…until now. I guess I found a brand new one. It’s been so long I almost didn’t recognize what was happening.

3 days coming, 3 days staying, 3 days leaving. So the worst is yet to come, tomorrow and Tuesday. Yay.

My average is around 2 colds per year. I don’t understand how people go decades without one. I guess my immune system is weak. :(

Last one was in November knock on wood.

How old are you? Prior to the age of about 45 I had about one or two colds a year.

@Dutchess_III I’m 27. So I’ll hope that I get fewer of them as I get older. The last time my mom had one, she caught it from me, and my dad doesn’t seem to get them anymore now that he’s retired.

You will! There are 160 rhinovirus out there but only a few are really common. I don’t remember the number. I want to say 34?

Oct 2018. Two weeks after my flu shot.

I never catch colds. But when I do, I never admit it and I get over them quickly. HA!

I think that it gives the cold power if you talk about your cold. Some people seem to have to tell everyone how they feel and even whine about it. That just makes the cold last longer. Also no one wants to hear about your cold. Spare then the grief.

NEVER say, “Oh, I think I feel a cold coming on.” Because you are really asking for it. Big time!

People may ask me, “Do you have a cold?”. I just say no, or it’s just a sunny nose.

Colds never stop me from exercising or having fun. How? Because I never catch colds.

I had a minor cold for 3 weeks, that finally cleared up last week. I caught it from my friend’s 4 year old who was sick when I was babysitting him.

Maybe 5 years ago? I’m really not sure.

About two years ago I got the flu. That was nasty. But I have had to common cold about two times in the last decade (maybe longer).

I am a dirty person. I don’t wash my hands after using the bathroom unless I mess up and get pee or poo on my hands and that is rare. I do wash with soap before making food. But normally I just wash my hands with warm water if there is no need to think I am contaminated.

Are we counting flu? I just saw the answer above me. I had the flu 2½ years ago.

I was asking about a cold. IMO there is a huge difference between the flu and a cold, but it seems like like many people call a cold the ‘flu’. Maybe they want to make it sound worse than it is, like @gondwanalon alluded to.

I can still function with a cold, but I can’t function with the flu. The last time I had the flu was in 1975 and it kept me in bed for two days vomiting. If I tried to stand up I’d start to pass out.

Staying clean is important, but only from a bacterial stand point. I just don’t believe that there is anything we can do to avoid coming in contact with a virus that we’re not immune to if it’s “going around.” Eventually it will get to us.

I don’t often get colds either, but I got one a couple months ago.

This year was terrible! I got it bad, almost four weeks worth.

Be careful, people here were getting hospitalized.
