Half a million people have signed up to storm Area 51. Will you be rooting for them?

Asked by ragingloli (51979points) July 13th, 2019

How many will actually show up?
I am thinking about 5.

I also think they should be storming the concentration camps instead.

Silly stuff.

Zaku's avatar

I think it’s amusing and silly and am curious what if anything will happen.

I also think that there are better places to protest and/or storm.

ARE_you_kidding_me's avatar

I think when half of them die and the remaining half don’t find aliens or even anything interesting that’ll be the end of that sort of thing.

Dutchess_lll's avatar

Why would they die?

ARE_you_kidding_me's avatar

Because lethal force is authorized in installations like that.

Dutchess_lll's avatar

Oh. Well. They that stupid I guess they get the Darwin Award.

KNOWITALL's avatar

Rooting for them 100%

Brian1946's avatar

Nope.

My people and I will be using the distraction to escape back to our home planet.

Dutchess_lll's avatar

What are they hoping to accomplish?

stanleybmanly's avatar

To sign up is one thing. To show up and literally reveal your stupidity is quite another matter.

Dutchess_lll's avatar

To sign up for what?

This is a first. I agree with @knowitall

KNOWITALL's avatar

@Stache haha! All the memes on Instagram and fb are hilarious this weekend. People leaving 51 with Predator on a leash, etc..

Dutchess_lll's avatar

You guys do know it’s all a joke, right?

KNOWITALL's avatar

@Dutchess Sure, but some will show up, guaranteed ha

I just hope nobody gets hurt.

What is the most that can be achieved through such an operation? The revelation that our government withholds information from the public? WHO requires any MORE proof of this? If the goal is to force the exposure of what amounts to a smattering of the information the government conceals from us, will such exposure justify the casualties?Considering the myriad of previous examples, will the crowd of attendees understand the implications for their lives once they are labeled lethal threats to the national security of the United States?

@stanleybmanly ” The revelation that our government withholds information from the public? WHO requires any MORE proof of this?”

I think most of the people involved in this believe there is actual physical proof of the existence of extraterrestrial life that the government is withholding. I think it’s much more likely they would find top-secret experimental plane and drones being built and tested. As many problems as I have with the military industrial complex, I recognize the necessity of these types of programs so we can prevent other countries from having a technological advantage over us. It would be very bad if a country such as China were able to develop weapons that were superior to our own.

stanleybmanly's avatar

But let’s assume the extraterrestrials are indeed there. The 2 questions that require immediate consideration are 1. The extent to which the government is prepared to resist verifiable exposure of the evidence and 2. The capability of an assembled mob to overcome such resistance. My guess is that lethal force is on the menu of the defenders. And it is guaranteed that mob suppression is high on the list of training priorities for those assigned the task. The tactical forces available to reinforce those already assigned such duties are enormous, and the assembly of the mob will NOT be clandestine if we are. discussing it here. And I imagine loli (like the rest of us) will watch on tv even if I offer her/him a first class airline ticket to Vegas.

Dey gunna bring their GUNS so if the gubment starts an air assault war they can kick the gubments ASS!!

Patty_Melt's avatar

“We can move faster than their bullets.”
Sure. That makes sense.
It doesn’t matter how fast you are, if you are running toward them bullets, you gonna be shot.
WTH???
Do these people think they can outrun bullets? Airplanes get shot, cars get shot, but some yahoos think they are faster than a fired projectile. Well don’t that beat all.
When they get there, they will see an area which looks vast, dead, undeveloped. They won’t even know which direction to go.
It would be delightful if, when they get there, a bunch of servicemen could be set up outside the gate with lots of grills and oodles of burgers and franks and chicken being BBQ’d. Instead of shooting, distract them with a tailgate party.
I would shell out the bucks for a pay per view on that.

Dutchess_lll's avatar

I think their ill thought-out plan is that there will be more of them than they can shoot.
They’re Super Stupid.

To add just a drop of intelligence:

If the government has alien technology they want kept secret, and ever had it at Area 51, it’d be extraordinarily incompetent (even for the government) to keep it there much longer than that idea became public.

stanleybmanly's avatar

One thing is certain. Whatever is behind those fences and buried in the ground at area 51, the government has foreseen measures to defeat attempts at it being overrun and captured by military, let alone civilian storm!!

ARE_you_kidding_me's avatar

It’s honestly probably some boring mundane shit behind that fence.

And mint juleps. I’ve never had one. This seems like the time to try.
