Who are the sex symbols of science fiction?

Asked by SmashTheState (14245points) September 14th, 2019

Whom would you personally consider to be the most physically attractive men and women of science fiction, past and present, both on film and television? (Note that to qualify they have to be associated with sci-fi; Pamela Anderson for example may have appeared in Barb Wire, but she’s not really known for that.)

Nichelle Nichols? Katie Sackhoff? Claudia Christian? Jeri Ryan? Catherine Schell? Amanda Tapping? Carrie Fisher?

Leonard Nimoy? Patrick Stewart? Scott Bakula? Harrison Ford? Buster Crabbe? Hugh Jackman? Chiwetel Ejiofor?

@YARNLADY

Are you watching “Buck Rogers in the 25th Century”?

Dutchess_lll's avatar

Albert Einstein. IMO. shoot. I didn’t read the “fiction” part.
Then I go with our own Matt Browning.

@YARNLADY Are you Team Ardala or Team Deering?

YARNLADY's avatar

@Brian1946 Yes, it is on right now.

YARNLADY's avatar

@SmashTheState sorry, I can’t figure out what you mean (three glasses of wine)

YARNLADY's avatar

@SmashTheState wait, you mean Princess Arldala, or did I get that wrong?

SmashTheState's avatar

@YARNLADY Yes, Buck’s two love interests are Wilma Deering and Princess Ardala. Deering is undoubtedly prettier, but Ardala has that bad grrl thang going for her.

YARNLADY's avatar

@SmashTheState Oh I get it, I heard the name wrong. I’m always for the “good” one.

SmashTheState's avatar

@Brian1946 Lee Meriwether comes off second-best to Julie Newmar as Catwoman, I’m afraid.

@YARNLADY

Will you next be watching “The Invaders”, starring Roy ‘pretty boy’ Thinnes? ;-)

RedDeerGuy1's avatar

Jadzia Dax from DS9 in her wedding dress. Terry Farrell.

@SmashTheState

If Losira is for Catwoman, then Catwoman will be dead last. ;-)

YARNLADY's avatar

@Brian1946 No, I’m going to sleep now.

The Green Lady from Lost in Space (Vitina Marcus).

I’d have to go with the guys from Supernatural. Dean Winchester, Castiel and Crowley.

Constable Odo (DS9)
The Tar Monster (TNG)
The Blob
The Thing
The Xenomorph.

Vin Diesel in Riddick.
Eric in True Blood.
Thor, of course.

There are lots of hot ladies, Storm, Hallie Berry as Catwoman, Wonderwoman, etc..

Drax.
I love his laugh.
The simplistic innocence of being entirely literal.
I could live forever though, happily not knowing about his toilet leavings.

Stephen Hawking…that voice.

As a straight guy, I consider men “attractive” when hmm, I’m not sure, but it’s a combination of handsomeness and more importantly, something about being strong in who and how they are, not a sexual thing, so they don’t need to be young, fit, erotic, or sexual. It’s more like who do I respect as a strong intelligent emotionally healthy man, align with at some level, and relate to their character as a strong character model. It’s a list culled by the short list of science fiction films I particularly like (and maybe my memory), so:

Harrison Ford
Sean Connery
Alec Guinness
Peter Cushing
Christopher Lee
Max von Sydow
Tom Baker
Martin Landau
Charlton Heston
William Shatner
David Tennant
Tom Skerritt

There’s a strong similar factor at play for me with women/characters as well. I’m attracted to personal strength of character, intelligence, emotional health, sympatheticness, and personal likability, that influences how I respond to their physical attractiveness. So, let’s see…

One of my first and few crushes on an actress/character was when I was a little kid, on Barbara Bain in Space 1999.

Being attractive is sort of a Hollywood requirement for most female actresses, so trying to just think who I find particularly personally attractive from sci-fi actresses I can think of, um… harder to think of than I expected.

Diana Rigg (if you can count her as sci fi by way of Cybernaut & other sci-fi-element episodes of The Avengers) is perhaps the best female example of what I mean in a character.

Kate Beckinsale (more attractive though when not in a dumb Underworld film)

Yvonne Craig more as just really pretty rather than given very strong characters (green-skinned Orion slave girl in a Start Trek mental ayslum, and Bat Girl, though I don’t consider comic book adaptations to be very sci fi), though I think the actress was a strong person, which comes through as attractive to me in her performances despite the limits of the roles.

The main actresses in Firefly were all pretty much strong attractive people:
Summer Glau
Morena Baccarin
Jewel Staite
Gina Torres

Unless it’s Deanna Troi

Star trek babes must be green

(@ARE_you_kidding_me That’s the Yvonne Craig I mentioned above. She was also a ballerina.)

@KNOWITALL Eric from True Blood-now that is something we can agree on.

KNOWITALL's avatar

@tinyfaery Alexander Skarsgard. I’m not that into blonds, and don’t even really think he’s that good-looking in other films, but he was a hot Vamp, way hotter than Bill and the rest.

I think it was the way he hunched his shoulders forward and peered out from under his brow, vaguely menacing…haha, hot!

tinyfaery's avatar

I find him generally attractive, but as Eric he was hot af.
