Has the constituency for the Democratic party shifted from working class individuals to one favoring the educated elite?

Asked by stanleybmanly (24153points) March 21st, 2020 from iPhone

Does this explain the abandonment of the party by rust belt workers and farmers? Why are so many “winners” in this society labeled “liberal Democrats”? Why are we ruled by the rich?

Party lines intersect all levels of economic and educational landscapes. You just have concentrated patches in certain areas. The largest predictor of your party affiliation is likely the company you keep and their affiliation.

Yes. That was part of the “New Democrats” (cultural liberalism, “fiscal conservatism”) approach of Bill Clinton, and they haven’t looked back.

The Democratic Party hasn’t changed. It is for both those who are educated and those who are working class. It is just as it was under JFK, who had the best and the brightest.

It is just like when my immigrant carpenter grandfather did his best to put his daughter through the University of California, the same grandfather who insisted his grandchildren go to college,

Educated liberals do not consider themselves elite, we just think we are more inclusive than racists who decry science and rational thinking.

@zenvelo says The Democratic Party hasn’t changed. It is for both those who are educated and those who are working class. It is just as it was under JFK, who had the best and the brightest. That is correct, generally.
Trump lured the votes of the poorly educated trailer trash sheep who believed the image he presented on his TV show.
