Daniel Craig and Sean Connery are in a class of their own, the rest are just hacks (except David Niven, but he shared the role with Peter Sellers and Woody Allen).

Connery is the only on that fits the original Bond mold from post war Britain.

Kind of bewildering that you like Daniel Craig as Bond but not Dalton. Timothy Dalton’s grizzled portrayal set the stage for Craig’s performance. Both are very true to Fleming’s novels. Also, I think Brosnan was a unique mix of Connery and Dalton.

(I think they all did a good job, but Niven, though a great actor, was mis-cast/directed, and/or I just greatly dislike that version of Casino Royale.)

I would rank the (writing, mainly) of most of their films, however, a bit differently, though that’d have to be by film, and I can’t fool myself into procrastinating that much right now.

Sean Connery was the only one that was any good.

rockfan's avatar

@flutherother Have you actually seen the films with Daniel Craig?

I think I’ve seen them all and enjoyed them. Daniel Craig was plausible but Connery was perfect for the role. In my mind at least.

Sean Connery
Roger Moore
Timothy Dalton (who doesn’t like to see gasoline trucks explode!?)

The bottom four, in no order at all:

Lazenby (one movie, awful)
Craig (thoroughly unlikeable)
Niven (stick to Shakespeare)
Brosnan (totally miscast)

Best Bond Girl – by far -

Carole Bouquet

I’m inclined to agree with @elbanditoroso. I have a particular dislike for the Craig films though because they’re completely tone deaf. They’re trying to make James Bond into Jason Bourne: the international man of mystery without acknowledging how absolutely ridiculous the concept is. He just comes as silly. It’d be like a Willy Wonka remake starring Steven Seagal as a “don’t fuck with me” Willy Wonka.

Mike Myers was pretty good.
But the best one was Alexander Siddig.

You need to have read the books in order to even answer this question.
Sean Connery is the only actor that fit Ian Fleming’s character and escapades.

But the books were a lot darker than Sean Connery’s Bond. I think Craig’s Bond is a bit more faithful

I always liked Dalton.
What’s particularly interesting about Bond is how they reinvented him for the time. Each actor / version really only fits in the time period it was made. Which is probably why 60 years later we’re still interest in who will be the next Bond.

@rockfan ”..Dalton’s grizzled portrayal” But Bond is never grizzled, he is the epitome of suave and debonaire, as comfortable slicing the throat of a guard as he is having a martini at a baccarat table.

Lightlyseared's avatar

@zenvelo No. Bond is the epitome of suave only in his head. He wants to be but knows he’ll never truly be.
