With all the stress many of us experience, do you take time for moments of quiet pleasure?

Asked by janbb (62916points) 1 week ago

Today is a quiet, lovely day in my neighborhood. I had a productive committee meeting, a good eye appointment and I’m waiting for my walking buddy to come by for a walk. I am feeling peaceful and grateful.

Can you tell us about some little positives in your life right now? Doesn’t have to be the big things, just some moments of pleasure.

I cook dinner for my partner and I every evening. He doesn’t cook and has gladly taken on the habit of cleaning up. Then we go for a walk through a park along the canal that separates us from Waikiki. We can talk and hold hands. It’s really a lovely way to end the day.

I have a flowering cherry tree (just flowers, no fruit) that is in full, heavy, bloom right now. When my tiny neighbor was right underneath it, I shook some of the branches and she was absolutely entranced as the petals fell like snow onto her face and arms. Her mom was pretty thrilled, too.
My front yard is currently pink.

Yes. I absolutely love staying in bed in the morning and not having to jump right out and get ready.

I also go out onto my back patio sometimes and work or just lie on a lounge chair and close my eyes.

Sometimes I drive over to one of the town squares and sit on the large veranda and people watch. Usually, I go to a square to dance, but during the day it’s calm and very pleasant.

Another is going to the swimming pool around 5:00pm. It’s almost always empty or just a few people. I swim a lap or two and then float in the pool for a bit.

Hmmm…this question made me realize that I have no joy in my life. I’ll have to figure something out to add it.

This time in the spring, when everything is in bloom and turning green is magical to me. I love just walking and watching the world come back to life. The climate is mild, the days trending longer… it’s pure bliss. I de-winterized our pontoon boat today and got it out on the water for the first time since last fall. Just me alone, tending to an engine and hearing it come to life after a long sleep. The sounds, smells, and the sun… it’s good to be alive. Enjoy the little things while you can. Death comes for us all, so live life as if it ends tomorrow.

I just oiled the deck and I look forward to putting all the plants out and the chaise lounge out iwthin the next week and starting my evenings out there, underneath the umbrella (so not for tanning but just for enjoying the outdoors).

I’ve been planning a few vacations and I look forward to the planning and the vacations.

I had some moments of joy this afternoon. I walked into the dealership after turning my car over to service, and there in the waiting room was a gorgeous American Eskimo Dog, which is a relative of the Spitz. Her back came to about my knees and she was 60 lbs. The owner has her groomed every 3 weeks so she was sooo soft and fluffy and she was a ‘white’ white, not yellowish at all. Her groomer puts a small feather on her head after grooming because when she gets kerchiefs she tears them off. The current feather was bright green and blue; it’s only about 3 inches long and she wears it perfectly. I spent about 10 minutes loving on her. Blissss :)
