What is this movie?

Asked by aanuszek1 (2290points) November 19th, 2008

In civics we’re studying the flag code, and we learned about how the finial (the ball or spike on top of a flagpole) is used to keep birds off of the pole. However, I do believe watching a movie where a man was stabbed with the finial of a flag. I don’t think it was “The Patriot”, even though Mel did hit a guy with it. Can you help me think of the name?

Mel Gibson did that in episode 1101 of The Simpsons. But that may have been a reference to a movie…

I do believe it was the Patriot. I can’t think of any other movie it could be.

Oh wait, he did it in What Women Want.

Mel stabs someone in “What Women Want”? I thought that was a comedy?

If I’d had a finial while I was watching “What Women Want”, I’d have stabbed MYSELF.

Tom Cruise fought with a flag pole during the Last Samurai

In The Boneyard (1970, i think) “the killer uses the sharp end of a flagpole to impale a student on the trampoline.”

And then there’s the memorable steampipe incident from Commando

i think you’re right fireside, cruise fought using a flag with a white tiger on it.
