What in the world is View Manager? Is it as bad as I think it might be?

Asked by McBean (1703points) December 12th, 2008

I keep running into trouble on both IE and Firefox where web pages load incompletely and graphics and/or photos never completely load. Then I can’t get the browser to respond to anything – whether it is a new address, refreshing the page, etc. The page just flickers briefly and then declares itself ‘done’.

I finally have to reboot my computer and when I do an error box pops up (once the computer is back on) claiming that “ViewMgr has encountered problems” and must shut down. This is a fairly new problem that’s just cropped up in the past week or so.

I decided, then, to update/upgrade my virus protection by logging on to AVG and, though I can currently open any other site/page, AVG.com keeps causing a page load error. Is this all due to ViewManager? Is there a specific component to trojans or viruses that will disallow anti-virus sites from loading?

Any help or insight will be welcome. Thanks in advance.

“Some malware camouflage themselves as ViewMgr.exe, particularly if they are located in c:\windows or c:\windows\system32 folder.”

Sorry I’ve been dying for an opportunity to use that site ;-)

Thanks, Vincentt, but I did already google it and there was an awful lot about it, some of it contradictory, and good old View Manager was really wreaking havoc on my ability to view most pages.

Jasongarrett helped out by cutting through the gunk and giving me two places to go, so as to figure it out. I’ve removed View Manager and hope that that’s the end of that.

It appears that AVG’s site is down at the moment and that viewmgs had nothing to do with it.

Thanks, jasongarrett!

You’re welcome. FWIW, avg.com and free.avg.com are both loading fine for me.
