Acupuncture and cupping?

Asked by GD_Kimble (2285points) September 26th, 2007

I tend to be a bit stressed and tense much of the time, which has led to various aches and pains throughout my body. Also, my immune system is shot from stress and I often get sinus infections, and other sniffles. I’m thinking of trying some alternative remedies, and I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with acupuncture and /or cupping? Did it work for you?

I had a Chinese acupuncturist who trained in China. She used needles, mild electric currents, cupping and magnets…I went for lower back pain caused by scoliosis. That was not helped, but the procedure was a profound emotional release, I found. Lying immoblie on the table, (moving any body part is very painful), I always cried uncontrollably for the entire session. Dr. Pang came in periodically and mopped me up.

However, she eventually told me to swim and see a psychiatrist, which I did. I found also that mild yoga and the yoga breathing very helpful. My sis swears by Tai
Chi, chi gong.

If you have no obvious injuries, Swedish massage can be bliss (pay for the entire hour) and make sure to get your ears and hair pulled, gently. Try OTC saline spray called “Ayr” or “Ocean” for nasal irritation.

I love acupuncture! I had cupping once and didn’t like it. I didn’t feel like it did any thing, plus it left huge bruises that looked like hickeys. Had to explain that to my boyfriend!

Any activity that suggests release of tension will be good for you. You could try exercise as well. I am a stress magnet and exercise releases all that pressure I put upon myself and reaps wonderful benefits for my body and mind. You might need to lighten your load in addition to trying acupuncture, massage, moderate exercise, and maybe forcing yourself to relax and do something that makes you smile and laugh.
