What are the best Bay Area flea markets & farmers' markets?

Asked by occ (4176points) October 19th, 2007

For farmers’ markets, I love Alemany market and the Ferry building. The downtown Berkeley farmer’s market is fun as well. For flea markets—the Alemany market on sundays, or the amazing Alameda Antiques fair. Are there other awesome markets that I’m missing out on?

We love Santa Cruz’s E. Cliff drive farmers market (I think it is spring/summers only) they also have spinach blitzes (spell?) that was unforgettable.

Walnut Creek’s farmers market is nice. Its small but afterwards you can walk in the nearby park. And Broadway Plaza and Broadway Pointe window shopping. I am trying to remember if Walnut Creek’s farmers market is year round or summer only. (it is in the library’s parking lot on Sundays)

I think the Ferry building market is good for people watching but I prefer the Sunday Marin Civic Center market. Also, the Novato market on Thursdays is small but has a nice street fair vibe. I’d go just to chill and eat veggies. We’re members of two CSA’s, Full Belly and Eat Well. Every week we get two boxes of surprise fruits and veggies.

i haven’t been to all those other ones but the civic center farmers market is right down the street from my house and i like it a lot… prices are good and the produce is pretty fresh especially if you get there early… i was really impressed that they accept food stamps too – you use your card at this van and they give you tokens that you can use at any booth… it’s definitely city life, there are lots of different kinds of people, on wednesdays there’s a guy who plays guitar and sings meditative chants…
