General Question

Have you ever thought of a really great idea but didn't realize it (in the make it happen sense)?

Asked by Zen (7748points) March 31st, 2009

For whatever reason. Maybe people can connect here and make it happen. Or maybe it wasn’t such a hot idea to begin with. With the influx of wis.dmites and others, maybe there are some fresh ideas for things or inventions – and someone to help make it happen, or critique it constructively.

many and it would be best not to discuss the specifics…by anyone else you risk losing your idea

@avalmez I know what you mean – but it depends.

I’ve had heaps of them. I never made more than half-hearted attempts to develop any of them, though, other than the ones I’ve put into stories.

I knew a very creative woman once, a graphic designer, who tossed ideas out to folks right and left. I asked her once, “Aren’t you worried about somebody’s taking your idea and running with it?” She said, “Nah, not at all. Ideas are a dime a dozen. What’s tough is sticking with them to make them happen.”

@Jeruba Exactly my point. Well put.

There are different types of people in the world. Some tests separate people into builders and pioneers. The people with the strongest vision are not always the same people with the drive and determination to dig through the details of realization.

In business, the builders are the people who make things run on a day to day level while the pioneers are seeking the new frontiers in which the company can expand.

It really comes down to trust because one person alone rarely possesses the skills necessary to do both with any degree of satisfaction.

@fireside Liked that.

I have several really good ideas. I haven’t had the time to make any of them work.

And I echo what @Jeruba said: ideas are easy. Execution is hard.
