Any good stories about how everyone met there spouse or current SO?

Asked by lukiarobecheck (1526points) April 9th, 2009

As far as my story goes, we met about a year and a half ago through a mutual friend. Our mutual friend, lets call her B, had lived down the street from me since I was in grade school. As we got older we drifted apart. After I graduated college I learned that she was living in the same apartment complex as me, and us and some other friends would all go hang out. I remember her mentioning that she worked with this girl that she wanted me to meet. I was skeptical since her friends were never cute. But I decided to meet up with them at a bar downtown one weekend. I remember walking over to their table, that night, and being shocked to see this very cute friend of hers. Enter L, my girlfriend.

L and I stared to date shortly after meeting, and we would hang out with our mutual friend, B, every once in a while. But low and behold we soon found out how crazy and jealous she was of us. She brought us together, and was now jealous. She even remarked one night, that she “brought us together, and could split us up” if she wanted to. I knew right then that we had to both ditch her. Man she was a mental case, so many crazy stories.

I play poker. I met him at a game years ago, and he tried to chat with me. I blew him off. Years later, he became involved in my weekly game. We all go to Vegas together every summer. He wasn’t gonna go because he was new to the group, but I told him he could share my room… I couldn’t decide if I thought he was gay or not, and I thought he’d be perfect for my buddy. We spent the whole trip together, found out he’s practically my neighbor, and that he is certainly not gay! :)

I hated my boyfriend before i actually got to know him. my first impression of him was slacking off at work. haha. but then i sat down next to him one day, mainly because i didnt feel like sitting next to someone else who was also in the room and we hit it off, and he asked for my number and the rest is history!

@Likeradar: Did you invite him to share a room with you because you thought he was gay, or were you interested in him at that point?

I met the future Mrs Harp in a pastry class at the Cordon Bleu in Paris. We worked at adjacent tables. I was way too timid to strike up a conversation, but she was constantly asking me to reach tools and ingredients for her (she’s 4’ 9”), so that opened things up a bit. Over the weeks, we chatted about our favorite spots in Paris, and she ended up asking me out on our first “date” – to a cemetery, believe it or not (it is a wonderful cemetery, though).

Things developed quickly from there, and we were married 3 months later.

@harp. Now that is an interesting answer. A date to a cemetery, sounds memorable. Also I liked how she approached you. I love when girls do that.

This is so not original—but I met my husband in a bar. I’d been living in CT for a couple of weeks and had a horrible cold. My friend talked me into going out, but I did not want to be at that bar. We ended up talking to this group of guys, and one of them was really cocky and irritating. He sat by me, and we argued for about half an hour. He wanted my phone number, but I wouldn’t give it to him. I said I’d take his number, but had no intention of calling him. Then we argued over who would go up to a bar and get a pen—neither of us would do it. Finally his friend went to get a pen, and I left with this guy’s phone number. I realized I was actually in a good mood, because he’d made me laugh all night even as he was pissing me off. So I called him. We’ve been married for over 10 years and have three kids. :)

I met my fiance on Cupid(dot)com. We were the highest possible matches for each other. He contacted me right away, before I even had my picture posted. Naturally, he asked what I looked like. I uploaded a couple of pics from performances I had been in recently. I sing with Sweet Adelines, and I had no other recent pictures. I had explained my hobby in my profile, by the way.

Well, when he got a load of my pictures in full costume and 5 layers of stage makeup, he was hesitant. In fact, he was scared off completely! In one pic, I did look sort of like a hooker or transvestite. And the other pic was from a punk rocker performance, complete with spiked leather collar and a bright blue mohawk.

He ignored me for a month or so. Then, one evening, he was online the same time I was. He was bored, so he figured it wouldn’t hurt to talk to me a bit on Yahoo. He was pleasantly surprised, and we went out that weekend. We’ve been together since, and we’re getting married in September.

@lukiarobecheck I thought he was a nice, fun guy, and I wanted to have a chance to get to know him better to find out if he was gay. My intentions were pure. :)

My spouse and I met on wis.dm summer of 2007…we were both married at the time and unhappy with our exes…a month after we talked (after I broke up with my ex husband), I went to see him on his business trip in secret from all his colleagues (totally trashy novel romance)...we spent 4 days together and went back to our prospective states…he broke up with his ex wife and moved across the country to NY to be with me…we got married past november with many wis.dmers attending the wedding…and now our son is almost 3 months old…

I met my husband at a Halloween party where he was dressed in drag and I was a harem girl. My skimpy bikini top kept breaking and he was kind enough to help rehook it. We were pretty much an item from that point on and got married about 7 months later. Now we will celebrate 25 years together.

This is so funny. I met mine when I was 18 and he was 17. We were at a party (typical of our age, lol). Anyhow I mentioned that I was moving out of town and he heard me and said he was moving to the same place as well. We spent some time together at that party, and the one the next night, haha. During that time I learned the general location he was moving to. So after moving I got some friends together and stalked him. I took the city bus to the area I knew he lived. I saw his brother walking on the street and we followed him to his apartment complex. We thought we were being discrete, only to find out years later they knew what we were doing all along (how embarrassing). Anyhow he came outside his apartment complex and said hello. It was history from there.
