I'm looking for a certain Glade commercial...?

Asked by seekingwolf (10410points) April 15th, 2009

Okay I have to write a paper about sexist commercials. I’m using 3 and I can’t find one of them, but I have it in mind!

It’s the one Glade commercial where the red-haired woman says goodbye to her husband and kids in the morning, saying that she’ll be cleaning all day. She sprays this Glade air freshener stuff and then leaves the house for the rest of the day…tennis, lunch, with friends, etc.

She gets back home just in time and smiles and says to her hubby “Yep, I cleaned all over today, aren’t you glad” He picks up the bottle of freshener and says “Don’t you mean Glade?”

I really really need this commercial for my paper, does anyone know where I can find it? I’ve looked on YouTube but I can’t find it!

If you’re looking for sexist advertising, look no further than Joe’s Crab Shack:

Omg I see that one on TV all the time here and it drives me NUTS!

Actually, I’m forming my thesis strictly using cleaning adverts and adverts for scented products to show how they stereotype women to always be jobless cleaning robots who go ape shit at the site of a little soap scum.

That’s why I need the Glade commercial..it would go PERFECTLY with my thesis. I want to email it to my teacher along with the other vids, so a link to it would be great.

I don’t think you really need that commercial particularly to point out sexism. Take any given household cleaning product commercial and note that it always shows a woman cleaning with it while everyone else is away. Every one I’ve ever seen is like that, and I think that’s sexist in itself.

The reason why I want it is because it’s especially sexist and kind of sad in a way…in order to break out of her role as the housecleaner, the lady has to freaking LIE. And her hubby is kinda annoyed to find that she just used Glade instead of actually working like a good little wife. What is she, a slave?

But you are correct…almost all cleaning commercials are horrendously sexist.

Oh wow I JUST Found the video !!!!

It was sort of “hidden” on YouTube but here it is, if anyone’s curious:

It’ll fit so well! I’m glad I found it.

@seekingwolf The woman’s name is Dori Kelly if that helps. Good luck with the assignment.

Oh wow! Thanks!
I’ll use her name to address her in the paper…will sound a lot better than “red haired homemaker” haha :)

And you can compare and contrast with the old Tab commercials from the early 70s. Ridiculous.

I can’t find it but I found this which more than fit the bill for sexy
I mean sexist advertising. Why can’t our models look like this?

@aprilsimnel
Ahh, the good old days…. That went from romantic to downright bizarre. It was actually eerie.

@aprilsimnel That was downright freaky. I immediately thought of a Saturday Night Livefaux-mercial’, it was so cheesy it almost had to be on purpose!

aprilsimnel's avatar

@augustlanAren’t you glad we’re too young to have seen and been influenced by such shite?

“Be a mind-sticker” was stuck in my head last night!

@seekingwolf
That Tab commercial from the Twilight Zone that aprilsimnel linked to is a perfect example of sexist advertising. It’s kind of like the Stepford Wives.

Yeah well, it’s not like there isn’t plenty of advertising out there today that isn’t just as bad. I don’t look for sexism to end anytime soon.
