Are you supposed to put aspirin in Christmas tree water?

I heard that it helps the circulation of the water through the tree.

I read this somewhere too, and then researched it online. It's kind of a wive's tale; there are a lot of things you can put in the water, but it really has no effect. You just need to keep the thing watered, because once the water dips below the trunk, the tree immediately starts to develop a resin plug. This inhibits the uptake of water, which is what will ultimately kill the tree.
