How to train my dog?

Asked by Swervy (107points) August 30th, 2009

My Jack Russell X brings his blanket out of his house at night after I have straightened it for him and he doesnt lay on it he puts it out the front of his house. I took the blanket off him and he went back in his house. But when I turned my back he came out of his house and sat infront of his house please help me tell me why he is like this.

I’m not sure I understand what it is about this behavior that is disturbing to you. It’s not destructive, it’s not particularly annoying. Do you just feel that you need to control everything your dog does? And what do you mean, “his house”? You don’t let him live with you? That’s a lousy way to treat a companion animal, especially a pack animal like a dog.

Your dog has opinions about the way he wants to live. He doesn’t want his blanket inside his doghouse; he doesn’t want to stay in his house.

Jack Russell terriers are very smart, very willful dogs. You really need to learn about dog psychology, because if you don’t train them, they will train you; and if you don’t understand how and why your dog thinks, you’ll wind up with a monster on your hands.

Dogs don’t care whether you are a good housekeeper or make any beds, even his. How about a training class for you and your dog?

That’s not a joke. It is a real website run by a noted dog trainer and has a forum where you can connect with other dog folks.

Plus everything already stated by the previous folks.
