I started taking YAZ when I wasn't on my period. How long does it take for the pill to work if I'm not on my period?

How fast does it start working and when do I know what I am completely safe. Me and my boyfriend have been dating for a while now. Am I safe with the pill if I have been taking it for a week?

My doctor told me to wait at least a week before having unprotected sex.
Use another method for seven days.
From the yaz pamphlet
Excerpt: “DAY 1 START:
1.Take the first light pink “active” pill of the first pack during the first
24 hours of your period.
2.You will not need to use a back-up method of birth control, since you
are starting the Pill at the beginning of your period.
SUNDAY START:
1.Take the first light pink “active” pill of the first pack on the Sunday after
your period starts, even if you are still bleeding. If your period begins
on Sunday, start the pack that same day.
2.Use another method of birth control (such as condoms or spermicides)
as a back-up method if you have sex anytime from the Sunday you
start your first pack until the next Sunday (7 days).”
I think it depends on the pill you’re taking, the one I use doesn’t take effect until about a month-but that’s how long one packet will last me. I would read the instructions or ask you doctor
