This is my 2nd iphone, and the 2nd time the volume button has gotten messed up. wtf?

Asked by alekseistevens (58points) September 21st, 2009

I had one of the original iphones, and the volume button got stuck. it wasn’t bad at first. it still worked, it just no longer really “clicked”. but then it got worse, and eventually got permanently stuck in the volume up position, so that everything was at maximum volume all the time. it really made the phone unusable. i now have a 3g, which i’ve only had, maybe, 6 months, and it’s doing the same thing. it’s in the early stages, still working, just sticky, but i have a feeling it’s going to go in the same direction.

Hmm do you have a case for it? Some say that dust can cause this problem. My friend’s home button stopped working because of the large amount of dust under it.

That’s really discouraging. I just bought the iPhone 3G a few weeks ago. Wish me luck.

My OG volume control got stuck too after about a year give or take. The “genius” claimed that some lint was wedged in it, but they replaced it under warranty.

My 3GS volume control has been fine so far, after… when did they come out? 3 months?

I highly recommend the cases made by Otterbox, +2 yr old gen 1 iPhone, no problems, dropped many times.
