How do I change the default font on iWork ‘09? I’d like to use something with a little more personality than Helvetica.

You could change the font to something you like then, go File – Save As Template… and use that template instead of the normal blank word processing template.

And if you don’t want to choose a template every time, I believe you can set a default template to use under the preferences.

First of all, you need to open a Blank template by creating a new document. Then choose the new default font you would like to use, as well as the size. Choose ‘View’ > ‘Show Styles Drawer’ to slide out the styles, and click the ‘Paragraph Styles’ pane. Roll over Free Form, click the arrow on the right of it and select ‘Redefine Style from Selection’. Do the same for the Body style in the ‘Paragraph Styles’ pane. Finally, choose File > Save as Template. Now you can choose your default document from your Template Chooser window category, ‘My Templates’ anytime.
