If you want to do everything yourself, you’ll need to buy a web domain. Depending on where you go it’ll cost you around $50 a year.

Once you own the domain, you’ll be able to design the site from scratch (hire someone) or look into a free blogging program (http://www.wordpress.org).

If you want to get noticed, create a Wordpress site with enough content. Make a few friends with similar content on your website and get promoted through word-of-mouth and your new friends. If your content is funny enough, it’ll get on somewhere like Digg.com and your website will go down for a day, but when it comes back up you’ll be insanely popular for a week.

It’s important that the content on your site is funny, current, and updated.

In addition to spywacko, the best way to get visitors is to have high-quality, original content. I find that on my blog, the most popular posts are posts for which there are no alternatives on the internet.

Designing a website has quite a learning curve as there are quite some techniques to learn (that’s why the most people do on their profile page on social websites is setting some ugly picture as the background image, making text illegible). However, using Wordpress and installing themes is a good way to customize your website :)
