What is windows\syswow64\wermgr.exe and why is it trying to connect to the internet?

Asked by augustlan (47745points) October 6th, 2009

My father-in-law’s computer gave us a message: “windows\syswow64\wermgr.exe is trying to connect to the internet. Allow?” Is this a legitimate thing or a trojan? If this is a problem, how do we solve it?

It’s trying to send data to Microsoft about program crashes. It’s not malicious.

Thanks, guys. Next question… does he have to allow it to connect, or can he block access so it doesn’t show that message?

He can absolutely block it.
