Can anyone give me some animation ideas to start from?

Asked by Glow (1366points) November 1st, 2009

So, my professor assigned the class an adobe director animation project. Anything goes he says! Yet he has failed to properly teach the program, so now I am clueless as to what this thing can do, and thus, I can’t seem to figure out what I should do. I’ve looked online for tutorials and come back with nearly nothing on my plate.

I just need some type of an idea! Something to start from, so I can get somewhere.

I am absolutely drawing a blank right now.

You could check out You Tube for some simple animations and see if that gives you some ideas. “Simon’s Cat” is a particularly clever one and animal inspired vignettes are often appealing.

the national film board of canada (http://www.nfb.ca/) has some really superb work up. I’m an animation student and it is my go to sight for inspiration, and technical ideas… well, there and Betty Boop.

Oh! Thanks for those ideas guys. Something along those lines is what first came to mind, buuut.. not what the teacher wants…. strange I know. Like, he isn’t asking for a character animation, like a walk sequence, which is what I first made becuase thats what first comes to mind when i hear animation. He is looking more for what we can do with the program, which is kind of like flash, but supposedly much more sophisticated?

I think this makes it more complicated, and I can understand if no one else is able to come up with anything either.

Firstly, I wouldn’t worry about how poorly your teacher has taught.. you’ll find that the greatest teacher in the world for you is yourself. There seem to be quite a few tutorials online to peruse. You likely also have a textbook for this class? Was the textbook no good? Or are you just looking for an idea for a story for your animation?

If you’re looking for a story you should probably do the the right thing and work fluther into the mix somewhere. Perhaps a familiar jelly or two could make their presence known.

If you have a favorite family story that family members tell over and over, create an animated version of the story. It can do double duty as a holiday greeting.

@ragingloli , lol, I love that idea :)

@NaturalMineralWater Thats probably a good point. Thing is, I get so lost and flustered when I have to rely on myself, but I guess its good practice for the real world. Good idea with the jelly fish!

@PandoraBoxx – haha, my dads got a couple, but they might be a bit too embarrassing to share >_>
