Asked by CHAR5560 (1points) November 2nd, 2009

I have an old western digital 40 gb hard drive that I need the data from. I have hooked up a back-up q usb 2.0 ide adapter to it via usb on my xp computer. It shows in computer management but not under my computer. There is no drive letter showing so I can transfer the data. Please help.

try changing the drive letter? Also check to see what the status of it is, Healthy, formated… ect.

Under computer management, you can change the drive letter. Sometimes, a computer wants to use a drive letter that is already being used.

I can open a drive from computer management (but they are recognized with a valid drive letter), just right click and choose open or explore.
