Did you just sign up with another provider or did you cancel your AOL service first?

Often contractual services have an early cancelation fee if you cancel before the date listed, but I don’t think that you should owe all that you would have paid between now and February.

Definitely, don’t give in to paying for the time they blocked your service.
You may need legal assistance.

AOL emailed me the mac code to move to another provider when I cancelled my AOL but AOL said I had a conract with AOL till February 2010 and even though I have move I still have to pay AOL upto February 2010

Do you still have the paperwork associated with the cancelation/code to switch providers?
