Did any of you eat your boogers when you were a kid?

Asked by Narl (1814points) December 6th, 2009

My daughter always eats her boogers and I tell her it’s gross and that she should get a tissue and throw them away. But then I read a research report stating that primates who eat their boogers have much better immune systems because they build up immunity to the germs they are eating. Do any of you eat your boogers? Know anyone that does?

No, but my brother did, he didn’t like blowing his nose because he would get a headache.

Get her this book. It explains it pretty well on a kid level.

As a kid? Tons. As an adult? Nones.

There is a kid I had class with at college that does. It made me sick to my tummy.

Yes. Which is pretty gross. I never get sick though!
Weird..
I’m pretty sure it’s completely normal for kids to do that.

If you child goes to town on a boog in class they will be teased about it for years. It is really best to stop this behavior.

Never ate my boogies. I would pick them and wipe them on the back of my headboard though. Sheer laziness. I’ll never forget the day my mom found all those boogies that I placed behind my head at night…

aprilsimnel's avatar

Nope. I would sniff rubber cement though. Which explains a lot, come to think of it…

When I was a kid?

rangerr's avatar

I did when I was little. I stopped before I got to preschool.
My stepbrother and a few of the kids I babysit do it. Saying “cut it out!” usually makes them stop for the night. Or at least get distracted enough to forget about it.

No I never did. Yuck.

Mm. My friend once told me she made “snot soup.” I believed her and considered collecting mine…

I did when I was little! I’m not sure when I stopped. I was never teased for it or anything like that and I don’t recall making a conscious decision. I guess I just eventually realized there were tastier things to put in my mouth? I have no idea. Anyway, I’m sick all the damn time, so it sure as hell didn’t help me at all!

No, I couldn’t even watch the other kids do it, I’d vomit at the sight of it. Scabs were worse, I’d be sick for days if anyone even acted like they were going to eat one.
