Having trouble importing videos. Suggestions?

Asked by sliceswiththings (11723points) December 15th, 2009

I have a mac. Ever since I updated my iPhoto it won’t upload videos. I used software that came with my camera to install a program to import them, but it got uninstalled and now my disc drive is broken so I can’t reinstall it.

Is there any way to either make my iPhoto behave or otherwise get videos off my camera? My grandma wants to hear me sing!

Do you have iMovie? Try File>Import from Camera.

Oh wow. I can’t believe I didn’t think of that. @simpleD Simple, indeed! Thanks!

Oh nevermind, didn’t work. “Import from camera” is only the built-in iMovie camera.

Oops. Try File>Import>Movies.

Did, but my camera is not showing up anywhere. Where would my camera be?

What kind of camera is it?

If it shows up on your desktop, you should be able to see the folder that contains the movie files. Drag that to your desktop, and navigate to it from the Import>Movies dialog.

It doesn’t show up on my desktop. Any idea why that is, or how I can fix it? Just discovered “image capture” so I’m playing with that.

USB connection. Camera might have to be set to some sort of “Play” mode for it to appear on the desktop. No additional software should be necessary.

Hm, well “image capture” seemed to work, I wish I had discovered that earlier!

The other option might be to take the card out and use a reader
