How do you change dog to cat, jump to pool and cool to warm?

Asked by dogkittycat (916points) December 17th, 2009

“You can change hate to love in just three steps-that is, you can change the word hate into the word love by changing one letter at a time, where each change produces a new word: hate-have-hove-love” A friend gave me this puzzle to turn dog to cat, jump to pool and cool to warm. Each step taken has to be a real word. I figured out the first one: Dog-tog-tat-cat, (I looked up both tog & tat and they are words) But I have been working on the others for hours and get close but not quite it. If anyone could help me out with the other two, that would be great! Or even just a hint would be fantastic.

Kudos to @MrItty Never would’ve figured it out on my own!

Also, your first one could also go:
dog -> dot -> cot -> cat

…. in fact, it has to. Because your second transformation, from tog to tat, changes two letters at once. And that’s not allowed by the rules of the game.
