Is it worthwhile upgrading to a wireless N router from a G router?

Asked by Rarebear (25192points) December 21st, 2009

I have an old wireless G router, and I’ll be getting a new laptop with N capability. I have regular basic DSL. Is it worthwhile upgrading to a wireless N router? Is there a noticible uptick in speed?

Not really, N only really comes in handy when streaming video and music from one PC to another or to a Console or whatever. If your router breaks or anything by all means get a N router. However it’s not worth upgrading when you have no need for it

@joeysefika Thanks. That’s exactly the answer I needed. I always hate throwing out something that is working perfectly fine.

No need at all. Your Internet connection is the limiting factor here. Upgrading won’t do anything.
