6 year old Helix piercing stinks?

Asked by Tebiwa (53points) December 23rd, 2009

6years old…done with gun before hollow needles came out.
wear non allergic non metal special order jewelry. Clean it morning and night for 6 years – Dr piercing’s aftercare, epsom salt washes, and Melaleuca oil. No infection, no redness, no soreness..no problem but the smell…any suggestions other than a plastic surgeon??????

In my experience, all piercings stink and bad. Especially if they are gauged.

no gauge..small ring..and you made me feel better…I have been worried..especially now that I have Lymphoma. (remission) we took the ring out for 6 months…and the hole filled with gunk and sore…when I put the ring back in…it got instantly better…drainage ability?/ anyway..thank you

The holes will also get shampoo, lotions, etc. in them that will cause them to smell.

Although I can’t say for sure because I can’t see the piercing, you’re probably fine…I have three helix piercings, ranging from 2.5 years – 6 months old and four 8-year-old and 6-year-old lobe piercings. Like @uberbatman said, in my experience, all of my piercings have stunk, and cartilage piercings are no exception. Unless there is some sign of infection, there’s most likely nothing wrong with the piercing.

That happens with the ear lobe piercings I have had for 29 years.

Helix piercings always smell bad. No idea why, maybe it’s all the hair stuff and ear oils and such. Unless there’s a discharge, I wouldn’t worry about it.

My daughter the body piercer says all piercings stink, so don’t worry about it.
