Why won't my iTunes open:(?

i forgot to close out of it before i shut my laptop last night, but i have done it before with no problems.

i just went to open it up, and it opens then says iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close.

and i have tried restarting my computer. any ideas on whats wrong or how to fix it?:S

and i have Windows XP.

Try reinstalling/repairing it with start>control panel>add or remove programs.

@Blondesjon if i reinstall it, does that mean i will lose all my music?

No. All of your music is saved in a folder on your hard drive. You can always just download iTunes again and reinstall it that way.

Did you have it set up so that it started when your laptop did?

noo. but could this have something to do with the fact that I just fixed my computer back in December from having a virus for six months?
