Is Fun Dip vegan?

Asked by Supacase (14563points) February 4th, 2010

The only thing I have been able to find online is that the magnesium stearate is plant derived. Is there anything else in it that could be a concern?

These are the ingredients, though I do not know if this includes the white sticks:
Cherry Ingredients: Dextrose, Maltodextrin, and less than 2% of Citric Acid, Magnesium Stearate, Artificial Flavors, Red 40 Lake. Razzapple Ingredients: Dextrose, Maltodextrin, and less than 2% of Citric Acid, Magnesium Stearate, Artificial Flavors, Blue 1, Blue 1 Lake, Yellow 5.

Yes, according to this website. The forum poster emailed Wonka.

So a few sea urchins are killed making that purple dye…

Seriously, it looks vegan to me. Also, Fun Dip is awesome. :)

Fun Dip is AWESOME. Except, if you’re thinking about giving it kids who you don’t want to be jumping all over the place, maybe reconsider.

I’m looking for a candy to put in class Valentine’s, but one child is vegan and I want to include him. He is singled out so often already.

I have received a definitive answer from Willy Wonka.

Thank you for contacting Wonka® Lik-m-aid® Fun Dip.

I would like to assure you that the only animal-derived ingredients used in our candy products are milk, eggs, and gelatin. The gelatin is used in our Gummy SweeTARTS, Kazoozles, Puckerooms, Sluggles, and Nerds Rope items. All of our other ingredients are either from a vegetable-derived source or are created synthetically.

The Wonka® Lik-m-aid® Fun Dip does not contain dairy, eggs or gelatin, so this product would be considered vegan.

We appreciate your interest and hope you will visit our website often for the latest information on our products and promotions.

Sincerely,

Sherry Riley

You’re eating sugar, so you and the animal in it both get killed. It seems fair.
