What is the balanced veratrole and nitric acid? Also, would you expect ortho-dimethoxybenzene or para-dimethoxybenzene to be nitrated more readily?

the lab involves the nitration of 1,2 dimethoxybenzene (veratrole) where veratrole and glacial acetic acid was added to a mixture of conc. nitric acid and ice water?

1. Are you asking for the balanced equation?

2. What determines how easily something is nitrated? Draw out the two structures and look at them.
