Permanent bruise on my back behind my heart ):?

Asked by Lothloriengaladriel (1550points) March 19th, 2010

I have what seems to be a permanent bruise on my back right behind my heart and about the size of my fist, its not a dark bruise but I remember my boyfriend telling me about it about 6 months ago, and its still there, What could it be? I’m a little scared because it’s right behind my heart.

I don’t think it has anything to do with your heart, but I think you need to see a dermatologist.

eghhhh fucking backwards smiley faces >_<

I agree with @dpworkin probably nothing to do with your heart. At minimum see your GP, but Dermatologist does sound in order. Has the mark grown in size? Is it perfectly round? Flat, bumpy, just a discoloration?

Lothloriengaladriel's avatar

@JLeslie yes its flat, like a bruise, Its been there about 7 months, maybe longer and we didn’t notice, and slightly sore to touch.

@Lothloriengaladriel How big is it? Did you look up skin cancer on line to see if the photos look anything like what you have?

I have a little “bruise” on my leg that does not go away that is just my veins and capillaries telling me I am getting old. It has been there for 10 years. But, I doubt that is what you are talking about.

Does it look like any of these? http://cancer.about.com/od/skincancermelanoma/ig/Skin-Cancer-Photo-Gallery/ Seriously, I saw you live in FL. The recommendation is to get an all over body check for cancer every year, which I personally never adhered to, but I do about once every 2 or 3. Anyway, I figure you are due for a check. Skin cancer is VERY treatable if you get it at the beginning, and you are lucky, if it is something that needs to be removed it is on your back.

@JLeslie Thanks for trying to help btw (: no it doesn’t look like any in the gallery, I tried to find a picture to show but the best way to describe it is a dark bruise that is almost healed so its like a tan color almost? Very light, and it’s around 3 inches long and 3 inches round but you’re right, I’ve never been checked for skin cancer either, Never thought about it

I really have no idea what it is. Usually with medical questions I have some sort of guess, but on this topic I am not very knowledgable, and it really needs to be “seen” in person by a doctor I think. Has it grown in size since your boyfriend first saw it?

Lothloriengaladriel's avatar

@JLeslie no I dont believe so, Its was always a round sort of shape but we didn’t take a picture or anything, I have a doctors appointment in a few weeks for baby because I’m 5 months pregnant which also concerns me if it is something serious but maybe I can ask my doctor, Thank you (:

Hah when I first read this I thought it was a metaphorical representation of your heartache. Like your heart’s been “bruised”. Luckily I read over it or I could’ve answered this very strangely.

Lothloriengaladriel's avatar

@HTDC yea lol it was probably the backwards smiley face that threw you off

Women can develop changes in skin pigment after changes in hormones… Pregnancy… a different P-Pill… It’s not raised, but looks almost like a birthmark? And I just read that your pregnant. Next time you go to your preggie check up.. ask them about it. I came out in so many freckles and dots… it’s a hormone thing. Definitely ask your doctor, but these things occur when we’re pregnant. I don’t think you have anything to worry about, but ask about it. All the best for your impending motherhood! It’s wonderful. I highly recommend it! :o)
