How do you think a murderer would react to someone that wanted to die?

Asked by meagan (4670points) July 23rd, 2010

What if someone broke into your house and was ready to kill you. But instead of screaming and going crazy, you were ready to die.
Do you think that would stop the person from shooting you?

Aren’t most murderers and rapists really looking for “control of a situation”?

If they are stoned out of their minds they might just shoot, no matter what. If they are scared that you have seen them and can identify them, they might just shoot no matter what. That’s not a surefire technique, I’m afraid.

I like that question. I have never thought of it from that angle. If the killer gets off on inflicting pain and fear, that would take away a lot of their motivation. The druggy would be the same, but the other type of killer, I don’t know. Needs some thought.

I question whether that would change the outcome at all. If the intruder intended to do you harm—because he didn’t want a witness or was scared or felt his own life threatened or was drugged out and just plain nuts—he probably would do it no matter what you said.

If they were just trying to rob you and cover their tracks, probably would not matter. However, if they were a serial type killer who was in the buisness of killing for power and control, it could make it more intriguing for them. They might try to torture you first, cause even if you want to die, pain is another story…. interesting question….

@KhiaKarma I thought about the torture thing, too. The show Dexter more or less brought this question on. :P

If they’ve any sense they’ll let that person go right ahead & kill themselves. No point doing the time unneccesarily. Waste of resources.

They’d kill you

I guess it might depend on the intent that the murderer is fueled by. If they’re looking for the thrill of the hunt so to speak, they might get slightly shocked or disappointed, but they would probbaly still follow through.

Even if you did want to die, physically the urge to fight back is next to uncontrollable, and people looking for satisfaction or desire through psychological trauma are, I think, usually people close to you, and not random strangers. Not saying random strangers assaulting someone can’t have that mindframe, certainly not; but I’m thinking that in this specific scenario, someone looking to commit the common act of robbery or some such would just find it an easier job if you’re willing to die, considering they’re willing to kill.

A murderer who breaks in with the intent to murder you is still going to do it but they’ll probably change up their routine in order to at least get some response from you other than welcome and joy. My guess if you’d suffer more because you caught them off guard and they’d have to “punish” you for upsetting their expectations.

I think you would be toast no matter what.

Awesome answers. I agree that they’d probably be even more angry that they weren’t getting the kind of “rise” out of you that they wanted.
