Why am i breaking out in hives?

Asked by ashsaintsfan (160points) August 30th, 2010

All of the sudden ive been randomly breaking out in big, red, itchy welts like every day, for no reason. They go away in about an hour but they’ve been appearing on my arms, stomach, legs and chest. I have no allergies whatsoever. Its kinda creeping me out. I do get hives, but i only break out in those when im REALLY angry…now its doing it every day. Does anyone know why?

You may have allergic reactions to something that normally didn’t bother you before the mono. It might clear up after a few weeks. See a dr if you need to. Try not to let it freak you out. My niece just had something similar. The Dr’s gave her Benadryl. (Check the spelling on that)

Stress can cause hives. Which leads me to assume that extreme anger could have the same reaction, since similar hormones and chemicals are released in the body in both cases.

Have you changed detergents? Fabric softener? Sometimes you can have a reaction to something that has never bothered you in the past.

Are you sure it’s hives?

@ashsaintsfan A new body soap or body lotion? Might do it.

the funny thing is i havent changed my soap, detergent, lotion, anything skin related, or food related either. thats what so crazy. The only thing different ive done is dye my hair, but i always do that. Maybe bc it was bleach? idk

I would go to the doctor if it persist and Benadryl does not help. I hope you feel better seriously.

You say you have no allergies, but two things work against that. 1. You haven’t experienced every substance there is 2. Allergies can develop to something you were previously not allergic.

I lived for over 60 years with zero allergies, and now I have developed some allergies.

If benadryl is helping, then yes you ARE allergic to something. It is possible to develop a sudden allergy to something you’ve never been allergic to before.
