Do you read for fun?
I do, but I’m hard pressed to find others who share the pastime.

oh yes indeed it’s my favourite past-time
I read constantly, but how is it you can’t find others who do? Don’t they have bookstores where you live?
I’ll admit it’s been a while since I picked up a book just because I wanted to. I seem to spend most of my time reading something work or college related…....except for online blogs, articles and fluther debates, of course ;)
I love to read. My Mom reads four to five books a week, and luckily for me, she passes them to me. My daughter loves to read also.
My husband hates to read books. He does not understand our love of reading, but he appreciates what reading does for a person. My daughter has a very broad vocabulary , is well spoken , is well rounded, knowledgable and a good speller all because of reading, plus she enjoys it.
Hell yeah I read for fun! I’ve probably read more books in my life than I’ve seen movies. I’m currently working my way through the frozen thrones series by George R. R. Martin, and let me be the first to tell you that very few authors can twist a plot line like he can.
Sure do. Although I hear the practice is in decline.
I’ve usually got two books going concurrently. I spend more of my disposable income in bookstores than anywhere else.
i read a lot, and mostly it’s for the pleasure of it. there are few things that keep your imagination working as reading does. :)
ofcourse….right now im reading the best nonrequired reading 2007 edited by dave eggers (love him)
i like to read menus…does that count?
Yeah, I read for fun and enrichment. I am irritated though because my wife reads for fun; however, we don’t read the same things, and we can’t talk about them. Same goes for my daughter. She’s 20 months old, and attempts reading. I can’t carry on any discourse about books with her either. I can read to her though.
Reading = breathing for me and 9/10 of family.
@mdeutsch; we’ll (or some of us) will talk w. you about books, or at least share reading lists.
I know you will. Recently, I’ve been reading a lot of James Baldwin. Next week, after grading, I need to reread soem Dante for an essay. Very divergent texts, I know.
I consider reading as vital as breathing, but it’s fun too!
Yes, always have a few books going.
Yes, and I generally stay up waaaay too late doing so.
There is honestly nothing I enjoy more save for perhaps painting.
For sure, it’s right up there with other things…
We love to read.
My wife is in a ‘Book Club’ where they meet once a month to discuss the book they all read the previous month…....oh, and too drink!
@RM- I like combining the two.
I love reading! I do it mainly for fun.
I do and I love it. Unfortunately, reading time too often gets cut short by too much time on the internets.
reading Chuck Bukowski books is fun.
Since you’re asking this on fluther, of course the answer is going to be an overwhelming Yes. Fluther people are awesome. Sadly, however, outside such a prestigious community of intelligent, distinguished intellectuals, most people hardly ever crack a book open.
Off-topic: @speaking of crack, why the user name @peterthepothead? Perhaps something less subtle?
I love to read! I like to carry whatever book I’m reading at the time with me everywhere and escape into it whenever the mood strikes. Right now I’m reading Catcher In The Rye. Even though everyone else has read it, for some reason I haven’t.
@gail, my name isn’t really peter.
Yeah, I do. I read about four books a week. But only romance novels. I’m a sucker for them, and yet still have time for a social life. Haha. What kind of books you like to read?
Non-fiction mostly, with the addition of philosophy, Oscar Wilde, Hesse, Vonnegut, Dumas and like individuals.
I love Hesse, which one’s your favorite?
Being retired, I am able to read for hours. I am a very lucky man because my wife has no problem with it. My choice is a mystery.
Not only do I like reading for fun – I like reading aloud with my girly friend for fun. It’s Awesome! I highly recommend Haroun and the Sea of Stories, The Princess Bride, The Golden Compass and The Twits for such endeavors.
I’m going to have alot more time to read now. I am working second shift, and it gets really slow after 6. so I will either read of fluther to stay awake!! Probably both!
Lately I’ve been reading books from http://textonphone.com on my ipod touch. 20,000 books for free, mostly classics. Very handy when stuck waiting somewhere or when reading in the dark to avoid keeping my spouse awake with a bedside lamp. You can download hundreds of pages to read offline when there is no wifi. You can have several books going at once and the site will remember where you left off. Because of its convenience, I find myself reading a lot more since getting the iPod touch. So far, I’ve perused Twain, Schopenhauer, and Nietzsche, and completed the Bourne Ultimatum. Right now I’m almost done with Karen Armstrong’s “The Battle for God”. This is a gratifying synthesis of my
love of reading and infatuation with new tech.
Yes, yes, a thousand times, yes! I do other things for fun, but reading is in the top three, if not number one. My list shifts a bit.
