What did you always want your name to be?

Don’t get me wrong, I like my name. I just get crushes on names…

I always wanted it to be a short simple name like Lisa or Joy. I think because I was a rather small child, I wanted a wee little name.

Back when I was a kid I insisted on being called Rex for about two days. I haven’t the slightest idea why.. I’m glad I didn’t file the paperwork.

@NaturalMineralWater my middle son insisted for at least a year that everyone (including his techer) call him Obi Wan. He literally would not answer to anything else.

I always liked Chloé, Emma or Ella… but i’m pretty content with my name.

I was hoping for Aloisius Bonaparte McGillicuddy but it didn’t work out that way.

I’m very happy with my current name, though, so all is well.

I like my name and wouldn’t switch it for anything.

I always saw myself as a Diane.

I also always wanted a greek name, like Theia. Mostly because I’m greek, almost 100% greek, and my name is Chelsea. Doesn’t make sense.

Depends on the age.

In elementary school I wanted a nice, normal name like Heather or Jennifer.
In jr. high I was into boys names for girls, so I wanted to be Joey or Frankie.
In high school my alter ego was Camilla. Boy do I have stories about her.

Kate. I’ve just always loved the name Kate.

Bond. James Bond.

I love my name and have never wanted to be called anything else.. but I too have “name crushes” which is why my future children already have names ready for them. In particular, my favorite male names are Cole, Wyatt (after Wyatt Earp), Lane (after Lane Frost), and Wesley. My favorite female names are Evelyn/Evie, Isabella/Bella (Bella is what my fiance’s mother calls me), Leigh, and Adalida (after the George Strait song).

“Cicero” is a cool name. Then you could be called “Li’l Cheech”.

@cak: I’m a Kate! I have to admit it is a pretty kick ass name. I’m not biased or arrogant…

I’ve always thought that a pretty girl’s name would be Caribbean and she could be called Carrie for short. I also have a little name crush on Lysander because I love A Midsummer Night’s Dream and I would love to name a son that.

I like the name Harrison for a boy and Talia for a girl. My mom and my aunt had a big fight over the name Talia. My mom was gonna name her child Talia, but my aunt “claimed” it first (her son was born like 6 months later). Both children were boys and neither got the name Talia. My mom officially won the argument though because my great grandmother agreed with my mom, so my aunt is still mad, and expresses her anger quite well against my side of the family.

@Mtl_zack: That doesn’t sound too good. My mom had a similarly stupid argument with my grandmother. All of the oldest daughters in my family are named Alice and all of the youngest are named Julia. My real name is Katharine (but everyone still calls me Kate @cak). My grandmother had a fit.

@KatawaGrey Wow. That sounds like a family very bent on tradition. It reminds me of the family from the book (then movie) Holes, where the father, son, grandfather, grandson, etc… have the same name.

So can your sister (if you have one) have a suffix in roman numerals?

@Mtl_zack: Well, I’ll never have a sister (mom’s been through menopause) but my mother is legally the second and she has II after her name. It’s caused all sorts of legal hell for her because everyone thinks she’s a man. Her name’s Julia so she’ll get stuff addressed to Julian. If I had been born a week later, on my great-grandmother’s birthday, I would have been the third and had III after my name.

I always wanted a longer name, something that could be shortened to a cute nickname. I also wanted something not so pedestrian as Lisa. I liked boy names for girls, too… so maybe Alexandria, but be called Alex. I made damn sure all 3 of my girls got names that could be shortened. That way, they have options.

I’ve always wanted my name to be Kyle. That’s why it’s Kyle!

@Mtl_zack @ @KatawaGrey Talk about a family bent on tradition… My fiance is a III, and all of his Aunt’s names (4 of them) plus his dad’s younger brother’s name all begin with the same first 3 letters as his/his father’s/his grandfather’s name. They are known for it around here. His grandmother wants me to do the same when we decide to have children (and wants our first boy to be “the IV”) but I’m ending the tradition! Neither of us want more confusion in the family.
