Does anyone know when the "[username] is crafting a response" is displayed?

I’ve noticed it lately too, so either you’re not hallucinating or we both are. :)

I assumed it was people who are using mobile devices.

I believe it’s only when there is at least one character in the text box.

It’s probably bad to answer my own question but I remembered I have two computers here at my desk. I’m not certain but I think it only displays when someone is typing…either that or it just displays randomly on and off.

I think this is a new phenomenon. I remember many instances in the not so distant past when a user would start composing and walk away, leaving the “crafting” message hanging there for hours. Maybe this is a feature to keep that from happening.

I find this blinking on and off very distracting.

It’s a timing issue. It needs a tweak.

OK.. I am going to complain again. Can the people crafting a response box go under our response? It sucks when it bounces around.

I was responding earlier and my response was pushed out of view by three other people responding. It is nice to be able to see what you are writing.

Why not just make it a single line, rather than a box? Like:

”eponymoushipster is crafting a response—-” the height of the name/lurve/GA line in a posted quip, or::

”eponymoushipster, andrew and 2 others are crafting responses—-”.

you could leave the pencil icon and maybe drop our avatars from the “composing” line.

it would be slightly less intrusive. just a thought…

Hush, you guys, or they’ll switch it back to that weird rolling line thing they had a few months ago that everyone whined about.

holy crap, it’s making me nauseous when multiple people are typing now!

I’ll do my part by being an Observing member instead.

Looking at the flicking names thing, i had another idea.

Rather than have multiple boxes, one for each composing member, why not have a single box, and display the avatars of all the composing members? a la Wheel of Fortune “letter blocks”? It’d look cool, and be less imposing, i think.
