Have I been sleepwalking?

Asked by amazingme (1860points) October 27th, 2010

I think I have been sleepwalking lately. I know I have gotten up in the middle of the night and done normal routines, like getting dressed and doing my makeup. But I only remember select parts (like mixing eyeshadow colors, of all things).

Would you classify that as sleepwalking? Have I been sleepwalking?

Are you taking Ambien?

I consider it sleepwalking. In my case, I call it “interactive dreaming,” because that’s what I feel I do. The things I do make sense in my dream (putting a prop that I think is an article of clothing into the dresser, then finding random objects in the dresser the next day, e.g.). I think there’s so much more to sleepwalking than just the meaningless zombie thing, so yes, I would call what you’re doing sleepwalking. Just don’t leave the house!

@lillycoyote No, I don’t take anything, which is why I find it weird that I’m experiencing this.

@sliceswiththings I hope I don’t! That’d be scary!

o.k. It really seems like sleep walking. I just asked about Ambien because doing relatively complex thing like you describe can sometimes happen to people taking Ambien. I used “sleepwalk” as kid but it was generally limited to getting up to go to the bathroom. It worried my parent s for a while but I grew out of it. Just one more thing that is best discussed with your
doctor, I think.

@lillycoyote Thanks. I haven’t sleepwalked since I was a kid either, until recently. I used to take baths, but I would never drain it.

PS. My makeup turned out pretty good, surprisingly. I even put liquid liner on and it turned out normal.

It sure beats spitting.

Sound similar, though. Maybe there is something in the air.

@amazingme LOL. That’s
good. At least you know that if this thing escalates and you start making sleepwalking trips to the 24 hour grocery or to some of the local bars, at you know you’re going go out there looking good.

It sounds like sleepwalking (unless you were intoxicated by alcohol or other drugs). I used to sleepwalk when I was a kid and I would pack a suitcase (or rather, just get it down from the closet and unzip it) or I would go into my brother’s room and get into bed with him (when I was really little,like 3 or 4) and have no remembrance of getting up and going in there. I usually had a vague remembrance of getting out the suitcase, but I was about 9 or 10 then. It was always kind of freaky, but I haven’t sleep-walked since I was a kid. Sounds like that’s what you were doing.
