What is the comma supposed to be though? is that plus? but I believe it is x

oh no they are just commas. haha. if i have 4 5 and 20 would the least common multiple just be 20?

What is the smallest number that any of those numbers could go into evenly?

To find least common multiple problems, start with the highest number in the set. Is that itself the least common multiple? It is if the other numbers in the set go into it evenly. If one of the other numbers don’t go into it evenly, then you have to start going through multiples of that highest number, and check each of them.

If you had 4, 16, and 32, you would check 32 first. Since 4 goes into 32 evenly 8 times, 16 goes into 32 evenly twice, and 32 goes into 32 evenly once, then 32 itself is the least common multiple

If you had 4, 5, and 10, you would check 10 first. 5 goes into 10 evenly twice, but 4 does not go into 10 evenly. So you go to the next multiple of 10, which is 20. 4 goes into 20 5 times, 5 4 times, and 10 twice. So 20 is the LCM here.

Now do the same thing with your numbers. Which of them is the highest number? Do the other numbers go into it evenly? If so, that itself is the LCM. If not, multiple the highest number by 2, and try that one. If it still doesn’t, try the highest times 3, and so on and so on.

@Aesthetic_Mess no. You’re thinking of greatest common divisor, not least common multiple.

so would the least common multiple be 2 then?

@littlekori did you read anything I wrote?

Do any of those numbers go into 2 evenly? Does x go into 2? Does x^2 go into 2?

What did I say to do? Start with the highest number in that set. Check if the other numbers go into it evenly. If they do, that itself is the LCM.

i did read what you wrote. there is no need to be rude. i am terrible at math.
But dont worry about it anymore. I will find someone to help me.

calm down everyone, just calm down. It’s math. nothing to get that frustrated over. @littlekori if you ask your teacher, maybe they’ll help you, or go to a site like mindlaboratory that could show you.

littlekori's avatar

i know. haha. yea, i know an online school, so i have been waiting for a teacher to help me. thank you (:

@littlekori follow the steps I wrote. Step by step. Write down each step as you’re doing it. That’s the only way we can show you how you’re going wrong. If you just randomly throw out a final answer like “2”, there’s nothing I can tell you except “no, that’s wrong, do what I told you to do already.”

You have already found someone to help you. What you seem to be looking for is someone to give you the answer. That’s not going to happen here. Sorry.

Its fine i figured it out. and i wasnt expected you to give me the answer. thanks though
