I’ve been told once in the morning, within a half hour after your work out, and maybe before you go to bed so your muscles will have food for the next 7/8 hours

Whatever your body weight is, you should be taking that amount of grams every day in order to build muscle mass. So if you weigh 160lbs- that’s 160 grams of protein per day. And after any workout you should immediately ingest 50–60 grams of protein in order to feed your muscles and promote growth. Don’t forget to cut calories and fats where you can and keep simple carbs to a minimum.

jballou had a good answer but if you are trying to build you should be taking in 1.5 grams of protien per pound of body weight. He was also right in saying that you need it within an hour of your work out but your body can’t digest any more than 40 grams per hour. So any more than that would be a waste. Also drink a shake right before you go to bed and also anytime you wake up in the middle of the night.

try taking some creatine also. 10 grams per day split before and after your workouts. The bottle will tell you to load but that’s a waste.
